The identity of a 25-year-old Silver Spring man killed in a multiple vehicle collision that sent one crashing into a Metrobus has been revealed, authorities say. Ovidio Aroldo Gonzalez Cortez was pronounced dead on the scene after the collision in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Lockwood Drive the night of Sunday, July 24, according to Montgomery County police. Police intercepted a rape at a Maryland transit center early Thursday, July 21. Tiwan D. Sweet, 38, of Washington DC, tried forcing himself into the victim and physically assaulted her while she waited at the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center in Silver Spring around 3 a.m., Metro Transit Police said. The victim yelled for help and Montgomery County Police responded and, intervened in the attack. The victim of a weekend shooting in Takoma Park has been identified as a Silver Spring man, police say. Nurhusen Muhammed Hamid, 27, succumbed to his injuries Sunday after being shot around 11 a.m., Saturday, July 16 in the parking lot of the Advance Auto Parts store in the 6300 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park police say. A Silver Spring motorcyclist who died after crashing into the back of a police vehicle last week on the Inter County Connector has been identified. Carlos Ivan Diaz-Franco, 31, was thrown from his motorcycle after the collision on the ICC between Georgia Avenue and Shady Grove Road around 7:30, Thursday, July 14, say Montgomery County police. A man was rushed to the hospital after being found shot in a Silver Spring shopping center parking lot, reports NBC Washington. Witnesses say around 40 shots were fired continuously during the rampage in the lot of the Briggs Chaney Marketplace around 5:20 p.m. Sunday, July 10, reports the outlet. Authorities have released the identity of an elderly Rockville man who has been arrested for sexually assaulting a minor nearly 40 years ago, officials say.
