A man who preyed on a woman he met through social media will spend decades in prison after raping his would-be date, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday.
Silver Spring resident Rome Hill, 32, was sentenced on Tuesday to life in prison with all but 30 years suspended after persuading his victim to meet him after just two days, then assaulting her at gunpoint in September 2020.
At the time Hill reached out to his future victim, she was a stranger to him, prosecutors said.

A Maryland woman is facing decades in prison for conspiring with her boyfriend and another man, then had help from her twin sister killing her teen brother, authorities announced.
Leaundra Matthews, 25, of Accokeek, was found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of her brother, Christian Matthews, who was strangled during an attack by Matthews' boyfriend, Tyson Lipford and another man, Daniel Howard, while he was asleep in their family's Silver Spring home in March 2017.

In Sept. 2021, Gary Savage drove from Tampa, FL to the Silver Spring home of his estranged wife, the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office said in a news release.
