Potential New Tropical Storm May Form In Same Area That Launched Helene, Milton
The same area that launched two major hurricanes in a two-week span could be the breeding ground for a potential new tropical system. "We expect another gyre to get going over Central America later next week," said AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva, "From this large, slowly spinning area of low pressure, a more distinct area of showers and thunderstorms may form, and from that, a tropical depression or tropical storm may evolve." The system could take two possible paths -- either northern (as Helene and Milton did) or southern. (See the first image above.) Meanwhile, …

Abnormally Hot July Ahead For Northeast, Forecasters Say
Forecasters say July 2024 will be an unforgettable one — but not exactly for the right reasons. The monthly temperature outlook for July was released by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center. A weather map shows next month is shaping up to be between 70 and 80 percent hotter than normal temps for the month of July both in the Northeast and the Midwest. There were some minor changes made to the bill before it passed, including dropping the fee per paper bag from 10 cents to 5 cents each. The fee will impact all shoppers in Baltimore County. Small re…

Plastic Bag Ban Proposed By Pols In Baltimore County
Baltimore County could be following in the footsteps of some neighboring jurisdictions and single-use plastic bags at retailers may soon be a relic of the past. Lawmakers have introduced the “Bring Your Own Bag Act,” which would limit the use of plastic bags and force retailers to provide reusable or paper bags in Baltimore County. “Plastic bags are one of the most problematic forms of garbage and litter, leading to millions of discarded bags that stream annually into our landfills, storm drains and waterways,” City Councilman Izzy Patoka, who co-sponsored the legislation, said. "Any addit…

Gubernatorial hopeful Wes Moore is looking to make history after reportedly earning the nod in the Democratic primary for governor in Maryland.
