The Harford County Sheriff's Office issued an alert on Wednesday, Aug. 17 advising that deputies responded to a residence in the 3700 block of Any Road after a homeowner reportedly found the suspicious device.
Deputies responded to the screen and secured the area, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, while officers with the State Fire Marshal were called to secure the device.
“At this time, there is no danger to the community, however, a portion of Route 543 will be closed for a brief period while the suspicious device is rendered inert,” the spokesperson said.
The incident led to closures on Route 543 on Wednesday afternoon to accommodate the investigation into the device, which was later deemed safe, and Route 543 opened shortly before 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
