Cameran Holt is in the ICU on life support after the innocent teen was struck in the back by a bullet as two groups got into a shootout on Sunday morning in Baltimore.
Shortly after 3:45 a.m. on Oct. 27, officers from the Baltimore Police Department were called to the unit block of West Hamburg Street, where they found Holt suffering from multiple gunshot wounds after she was caught in the middle of a hail of bullets.
One of the bullets struck her back and moved to her brain stem, according to her family, and she was placed on life support, as doctors were initially not able operate on the 19-year-old due to the placement of the bullet.
The injuries left her unable to breathe on her own. It is also believed that she will never be able to talk, eat, move, or use the bathroom on her own again due to the severity of the gunshot wounds, though she is still being treated days later.
"What started off as a great and beautiful day celebrating a new baby boy joining our family, quickly turned into the worst day of me and family's lives in the middle of the night," Kendal Holt wrote in a GoFundMe arranged for the family.
"What started as a great night for them changed in a blink of an eye when they were caught in the middle of two groups of guys fighting."
Following the shooting, Holt is being remembered as a caring, selfless person who was known for her love of animals and commitment to family.
"She wouldn't hesitate to drop anything to help someone in need, or stand up for all her siblings," Kendal Holt added. "If we ever needed anything, Cameran was only one call away.
"She was the best auntie to our nephew, Amari and he truly loved her like she was another mother to him," she added. "I don't think there was one person more excited (and) ready to meet the new baby boy in the family like Cameran was."
"My heart hurts ... You were so normal and real, which you don't find in people anymore," one friend said. "You never sugarcoated things and were always honest ... You were the only reason I stuck through working at Anthony's ... And you helped me cope with being bullied in high school."
Following her death, support has been swelling for the 19-year-old and her family, as they look to make her as comfortable as possible, with thousands of dollars raised through a GoFundMe campaign in just days after she was hospitalized.
"(As a result of) Cameran being shot we are please asking you to donate anything possible for the cost of her hospital bills and to help us put her to rest peacefully," her sister wrote. "She was loved by many and if you got to have a bond with her while she was here you know how awesome she really was."
