A Connecticut man who tried to kidnap a Western Massachusetts man at gunpoint on New Year's Eve 2022, but shot him instead when the man fought back, will serve eight years behind bars, authorities said.
New Haven County Marc A. Veturis, 29, of Waterbury, pleaded guilty on Thursday, March 28, to multiple felonies linked to the shooting, the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said.

A Connecticut woman suffered life-threatening injuries during a wrong-way crash.
The crash took place in New Haven County around 11:50 p.m., Monday, July 11, in Waterbury, on Route 8 South.
According to state police, a Honda Pilot was traveling southbound and a Honda HRV northbound when they collided, state police said.

A DoorDash driver and a driver for hire in the region has gone missing and authorities are asking the public's help in locating him.
Connecticut Carlos Reyes, age 20, was reported missing by his family members in Fairfield County at around 8 a.m. Thursday, March 31, according to the City of Danbury Police Department.
His family said they last saw him on Monday, March 28 at approximately 11 p.m.

A Fairfield County woman wanted for a string of car robberies and other crimes was arrested after crashing into eight police vehicles, and injuring seven officers.
Hannah Casperson, age 25, of Brookfield, was arrested on Sunday, April 3, in Monroe.

A man died after he drove his car the wrong way and slammed into an oncoming car on a busy Connecticut roadway, state police said.
It happened on a stretch of I-84 in Hartford County at around 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, in Plainville.

Man From Region Sentenced For Wide-Ranging $1.3M Medicaid Fraud Scheme
A former licensed professional counselor was sentenced for operating a scheme to defraud the Connecticut Medicaid Program of more than $1.3 million.
Hartford County resident Cortney Dunlap, age 37, of Burlington, was sentenced on Friday, March 11, to 57 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to Leonard Boyle, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
Dunlap was also ordered to pay restitution to Medicaid of $1,313,322, Boyle said.
He pleaded guilty to one count of health care fraud on June 4, the US Attorney's Office reported.

Skeletal Remains Found In Wooded Area In Region ID'd As 20-Year-Old Woman
Skeletal remains found in a wooded area in northern Connecticut have been identified as a 20-year-old woman, according to state police.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified the remains found in Litchfield County in December as Brianna Beam, according to an announcement from Connecticut State Police on Thursday, Feb. 17.
Beam was known to have ties to the Waterbury, Thomaston, and Bristol areas, and the State of Rhode Island, police said.
