Nurse Stabbed: 76-Year-Old Charged In Gardner Emergency Room Attack A nurse at Heywood Hospital in Gardner was rushed to UMass Worcester for treatment after an elderly man stabbed them on Monday night, June 12, authorities said.  David Nichols, 76, of Greenville, New Hampshire, is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and attempt to commit murder, Gardner police said. Nichols is being held on a $10,000 bail, officials said. The attack happened around 8 p.m. in the emergency room of the Gardner hospital.
