Grill Fire Guts Home In Western Mass, Injures 2, Leave 6 Homeless Fire investigators say a two-alarm Hampden County blaze on Thursday, Aug. 3, started on a grill on a home's back porch.  The fire began just before 4 p.m. on Wilbraham Street in Palmer as a family was cooking dinner on their outside grill, the Palmer Fire Department said. The blaze quickly got out of control and spread to the home before crews could get there and battle the flames back.  The fire injured two people and displaced a family of six. Cooking Fire Blamed For Killing Man, Injuring 2 Western Mass Firefighters State fire investigators said the fire that killed a Western Mass man on Friday, April 7, was a cooking fire that got out of hand.  Holyoke firefighters were called to the 19 Donlee St. home just after 1:15 p.m. High winds fueled the flames inside the two-story house and kept fire crews at bay for 30 minutes as they tried to beat back the conflagration, the state fire marshal said.  They found the older man dead inside the home once firefighters got in. Holden Firefighters Battle Back Flames In Home's Basement Firefighters in Holden rushed to a home on Zottoli Road earlier this week when someone saw smoke pouring from someone's basement, officials said.  The two-alarm fire was first called in just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Flames licked the side of the home as they poured out of the basement window as firefighters arrived.  But crews were able to contain the fire before it spread to the rest of the home. There was damage to the basement and other floors.  No injuries were reported.

Condo Fire Kills One In Region One person was killed during a fire at a condo complex in Connecticut. The blaze broke out around 3:08 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Hartford County complex located at 71 Russell Avenue in Plainville. Two Jump From Second-Floor Window To Escape Massachusetts Home Fire Two residents jumped from a second-floor window to escape a fire that was rapidly spreading through a home in Western Massachusetts. The incident took place around 6::45 a.m., Thursday,  May 27 at a home on Earl Street in Springfield, said the Springfield Fire Department.
