Slow Down For 'Shcool' Zone: Holden Promises To Fix Misspelled Street Sign A contractor may have needed to spend more time in "shcool" after they inadvertently misspelled school on a giant road sign in Worcester County.  Holden officials said the mistake happened two weeks ago on Holden Road near Mountainview School. They hope to fix it when the weather improves. Arson: Holden House Fire Intentionally Set; 2 Injured In Blaze Police have arrested a man and charged him with intentionally starting a Central Massachusetts house fire that injured two people on Tuesday, June 6.  Evan Kelly, of Holden, was arraigned on Wednesday, Leominster District Court officials said. He is charged with arson, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, reports said. He is being held without bond until a dangerousness hearing on Monday.  Investigators say Kelly intentionally set the fire at 24 Juniper Lane in Holden just after 7:30 p.m. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about two hours. …

Holden Fire Truck Sank Into Road As Gas Main Break Caused Sinkhole A Holden fire truck got stuck after a sinkhole opened up beneath it as fire crews were on the scene of a gas leak on Tuesday, April 26, authorities said.  State Department of Transportation workers struck the underground gas line at 1063 Man St. just after 12:30 p.m., which caused the leak, Holden firefighters said.  Fire crews were called to the large natural gas leak to help clear the scene and keep the fuel from exploding, but while they were there, one of the Holden fire trucks sank into the asphalt as the leak caused a sinkhole underground some 300 feet away from the rup…

Holden Firefighters Battle Back Flames In Home's Basement Firefighters in Holden rushed to a home on Zottoli Road earlier this week when someone saw smoke pouring from someone's basement, officials said.  The two-alarm fire was first called in just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Flames licked the side of the home as they poured out of the basement window as firefighters arrived.  But crews were able to contain the fire before it spread to the rest of the home. There was damage to the basement and other floors.  No injuries were reported.

On Tuesday, Feb. 23, the Massachusetts Fire Marshal’s Office said that officials had discovered the cause of a Feb. 18 house fire at 26 Runaway Brook Road in Lancaster. Lancaster Fire Chief Michael Hanson said the cause was the failure of the woodstove pipe. The fire began while residents Charles Dunnigan and Leila Wendler were out at a store. Police Seek Public's Help Finding Man Missing For One Week Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a Holden man who has been missing for about a week. Randall “Randy” Cole, 32, of Holden, was last seen on Thursday, Oct. 8 when he went out for a walk from his home in the Shrewsbury Street area. The house is near the Worcester Townline. On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Holden Police said witnesses had reportedly seen Cole get into a black Mercedes. Cole is known to visit the WTAG Towers on Shrewsbury Street, as well as the walking trails behind the Towers, police said.
