What started as a traffic ticket for a man caught riding a dirt bike on a public street in Western Massachusetts last week spiraled into multiple charges that could carry years in prison if he's convicted, authorities said. Kevin Orlick, age 34, of Staten Island, New York, was stopped on July 6 after police spotted him riding a dirt bike in Hampden County on Cabot Street in Holyoke, police said. Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Anthony Varvaro died in a wrong-way 9/11 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said. Varvaro, a 37-year-old married father of four who became a Port Authority police officer, died in the head-on collision near Exit 14C, early on Sunday, Sept. 11, they said. A man who suffered serious injuries after falling from a hotel balcony on Long Island has been identified as a US Coast Guardsman, according to friends. Alexander “AJ” Keating, age 24, was on a ninth-floor balcony at around 12:45 a.m. Monday, May 23, when he fell over a railing at the Hyatt Regency Long Island in Hauppauge, Suffolk County Police said.
