A former MBTA transit police officer was sentenced to four to six years in prison this week after a jury found him guilty of raping two women more than a decade ago. The victims told the court that the trauma of that night has stayed with them like a specter and would likely be there long after he gets out of prison. Red Line Commuters Will See Major Change Starting Soon
Commuters will have to take shuttle buses between Alewife and Harvard stations in Cambridge beginning next week as the MBTA makes "critical track" repairs to the Red Line. Work will run from Monday, Feb. 5, through Feb. 14, the MBTA announced on Tuesday, Jan. 30. Beginning at around 8:45 p.m. during the same period, the Red Line suspension will extend to Park Street, meaning evening service will be suspended between Alewife and Park Street stations. A 29-year-old Boston man faces civil rights and assault charges after authorities said he attacked a caused a man head injuries during a beating earlier this month at an MBTA station. Aiyoub Alsallak is accused of shouting homophobic slurs at two men at Andrew Station platform on Sept. 5 just before 9 p.m., the Suffolk County District Attorney's office said. The son of the MTBA's Transit Police Chief is being held without bail after he was charged with shooting a Lynn man to death in Everett last month, the Boston Globe reports. Brian Green, age 35, was arrested in connection with the murder of Jarmahl Sutson, age 38, the Middlesex District Attorney's office reports. The Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority Board (MBTA) announced Wednesday, Aug. 3, that it plans to shut down the Orange Line, one of its busiest commuter rails, to perform critical infrastructure repair. Gov. Charlie Baker said the shutdown will begin on Aug. 19 and resume on September 19. This is the first time the MBTA has shut down an entire line, Baker said. The Federal Transit Authority (FTA) has ordered an immediate "safety standdown" for the MBTA in response to several recent "uncontrolled train movement incidents," MassLive reports.
