Officials Tentatively ID Man Killed In Western Mass Fire Authorities in Hampshire County on Thursday, July 13, released the name of the man believed to have died in a housefire in Belchertown earlier this week.  Wesley Korenewsky, 68, who lived at 42 Daniel Square, is believed to be the person that firefighters found after they put out a two-alarm blaze at that address, a spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said. Man, Dog Rescued From Balcony In Western Mass Apartment Fire Firefighters in Hampden County plucked a man and his dog from their balcony after a fire broke out in a Chicopee apartment on a rainy Sunday morning, July 2, officials said.  Fire crews were called to Chicopee Housing Authority apartments on Britton Street around 4:45 a.m., Chicopee fire authorities said.  Firefighters found a man and his dog trapped on a third-story balcony of the building and used a 35-foot ladder to rescue them from the flames.  No other injuries were reported, but  the fire displaced 10 people.  Firefighters are investigating what sparked the …

Arson: Central Mass House Fire Intentionally Set; 2 Injured In Blaze Police have arrested a man and charged him with intentionally starting a Central Massachusetts house fire that injured two people on Tuesday, June 6.  Evan Kelly, of Holden, was arraigned on Wednesday, Leominster District Court officials said. He is charged with arson, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a person over 60, reports said. He is being held without bond until a dangerousness hearing on Monday.  Investigators say Kelly intentionally set the fire at 24 Juniper Lane in Holden just after 7:30 p.m. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about two hours. …

Two Firefighters Hurt In Blaze That Displaced 7 In Worcester A late-night fire in Worcester left seven people without a place to sleep and sent two firefighters to seek medical treatment.  The two-alarm blaze began just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at 4 Normal Street. When crews arrived, the fire had consumed the front of the two-story building, Worcester firefighters said.  Crews got the blaze under control in 30 minutes. Two firefighters received minor injuries in the conflagration, a department spokesperson said.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Central Mass Firefighters Battle Back Flames In Home's Basement Firefighters in Holden rushed to a home on Zottoli Road earlier this week when someone saw smoke pouring from someone's basement, officials said.  The two-alarm fire was first called in just after 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Flames licked the side of the home as they poured out of the basement window as firefighters arrived.  But crews were able to contain the fire before it spread to the rest of the home. There was damage to the basement and other floors.  No injuries were reported.
