450 Patients File Lawsuit Against Salem Hospital After Potential Exposure To HIV, Hepatitis
Patients have filed a class-action lawsuit against Salem Hospital after nearly 450 of them say they were potentially exposed to HIV and hepatitis through their IVs. Endoscopy patients at Salem Hospital “were potentially exposed to infection due to the administration of their intravenous medication in a manner not consistent with our best practice,” the hospital said in a statement to the Daily Voice. Money Meant For Abuse Victims Stolen From Springfield YWCA By 3 Employees: Police
Three employees of the YWCA in Springfield are accused of stealing more than $28,000 in grant money meant to help victims of physical and sexual assault and human trafficking. They planned to use it for personal expenses, police said. Aisha Pizarro, who was the administrator of the funds, and her two employees, Sharifa Forbes and Patricia Medina, are accused of taking the money, Springfield police said. West Nile Virus Detected In Massachusetts For The First Time In 2022
West Nile Virus has officially been detected in Massachusetts for the first time this year, the Department of Public Health (DPH) announced on Wednesday, July 13. The virus was found in a mosquito sample found collected on July 11 in Easton, DPH said. Seven Monkeypox cases have been confirmed in Massachusetts as of Thursday, June 16, the Department of Public Health (DPH) said. This comes nearly a month after the first confirmed case in the state on May 18, according to DPH. Nurse Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Patient In Region
A Connecticut registered nurse has been accused of sexually assaulting a patient. The Hartford County resident, Steven Lamoureux, age 46, of Farmington, was arrested on Monday, Aug. 30 for one count of sexual assault following an investigation by Farmington Police. According to Farmington Police Lieutenant Tim McKenzie, Lamoureux had been the subject of a similar complaint in New Haven and police believe there could be other victims. The first case of the COVID-19 variant has been detected in Massachusetts, according to the Department of Public Health. The first Massachusetts person to get B.1.1.7 is a Boston woman in her 20s.
