Authorities have identified the 23-year-old man who was shot and killed last week while attending a birthday party in Springfield, authorities said. The man who allegedly shot him turned himself over to police on Monday, July 3. Elian Arroyo, of Springfield, died June 28 after he was shot near the intersection of Ashmun and Adams streets. Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Anthony Varvaro died in a wrong-way 9/11 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said. Varvaro, a 37-year-old married father of four who became a Port Authority police officer, died in the head-on collision near Exit 14C, early on Sunday, Sept. 11, they said.
