License Plate Leads To 2 Teens In Cuffs On Drug Charges In Springfield: Police A routine traffic stop in Springfield nearly turned ugly on Sunday, Aug. 20, when a teenager refused to remove his hand from inside a bag with a loaded gun, police said.  Officers pulled over a car on Armory Street just before 7:30 p.m. after they noticed the vehicle didn't have a front license plate. Head-On New Year's Eve Car Crash In Springfield Claims Man's Life: Police One man has died following a head-on car crash in Springfield on New Year's Eve, authorities said. Police responded for a two-car crash in the 700 block of Armory Street around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec, 31, Springfield Police spokesperson Ryan Walsh said on Twitter. The man, who was going north, was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he later died, Walsh said.  Meanwhile a woman, who was a passenger in the car going south, was also taken to Baystate with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Western Mass Armed Robbery Suspect Nabbed Minutes After Crime, Police Say An alleged Western Massachusetts attempted armed robber was caught just minutes after the crime by police patrolling the area. Jose Diaz, age 28,was captured around 6 a.m., Sunday, June 27, in Springfield. Diaz,  of Springfield, was captured after officers received a call for an armed robbery in progress on Armory Street, said Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police. Police were able to locate Diaz and the knife he allegedly used in the attempted armed robbery, police said. Hampden County resident Jose Estrada, age 21, of Agawam, was arrested around 6:55 p.m., Friday, April 9, for the shooting which took place around an hour earlier in the area of Worthington and Armory streets, in Springfield, said Springfield Police spokesman Ryan Walsh.
