Raynham Police K-9 Kyro died at 10 years old on Monday, Dec. 26, announced the Raynham Police Department. He was honored by the Raynham Police Department at a service held on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at Angel View Cemetery.

Kyro, a German Shepherd from the Czech Republic, had an illustrious career, deploying over 300 times since 2013, searching for missing persons, locating evidence and suspects, and assisting SWAT and Search and Rescue teams.

The police pup once located a disoriented man who had been missing for 12 hours in the woods, and once sniffed out a firearm that had been thrown from a vehicle during a police pursuit.

Kyro was originally partnered with handler Ken Collins. After Collins' retirement he was paired with Sergeant Pacheco, who took to Twitter to pay his respects to his canine friend.

"This is my partner. He will be greatly missed," Pacheco said. "He was my best friend took care of me on the streets for 7 years."

Kyro hung up his police dog vest in the fall of 2021, and enjoyed a well-earned retirement with Pacheco and his family.

“On behalf of the men and women of the Raynham Police Department, we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Pacheco family upon the sudden loss of beloved K-9 Kyro,” Chief Donovan said. “Kyro served as a fearless and loveable member of not just our police department but the Pacheco family as well. Kyro’s impact on our department, the Pacheco family and surrounding communities will not be forgotten.”
