Crews responded to the three-alarm fire at 30 Stoneybrook Drive just before 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, Millis Fire said on Facebook.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the third floor. Crews worked quickly to put out the fire, which had reached the attic, and started searching the building.

Overall 16 pets, including a dog that was hiding in the bathtub of the main fire room, were handled by the Millis and Norfolk Animal Control officers and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The building was deemed uninhabitable and 28 residents were displaced as a result, Millis Fire added. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
