Barn-Burner Rages Overnight Monday A fire destroyed a full barn on Monday, Jan. 18. The fire began around 9:30 p.m. when police and fire officials responded to a report of a fully-involved barn fire on Shattuck Road in Hadley. Members of the Amherst Fire Department also responded. No injuries were reported in the fire, WesternMass News reported. Amherst firefighters said that the blaze could have been much worse. “While this barn was a loss, a strong effort by Hadley Fire prevented extension to an adjacent home,” said Amherst firefighters in a Facebook post.

Covid-19: WMass City Reverts To Full-Remote Education A small Western Massachusetts city is the latest city to join the full-remote learning club. On Tuesday, Nov. 17, Easthampton School Committee voted 4-3 to revert students to full-remote learning, according to WesternMass News.  There were not many children in classes at the moment - only kindergarten and special needs. Students were supposed to return to school on Thursday, Nov. 19, but this has been indefinitely delayed. School officials said they would revisit the decision in early December.

Low-Risk Communities Can Increase Capacity, Offer More Services On Monday Communities will be able to move onto Step 2 of Phase 3 in Massachusetts re-opening plan if they are considered low-risk for COVID-19 infection. On Tuesday, Sept. 29, Gov. Charlie Baker said commonwealth communities that have not been “red” for the last three weeks can proceed to Step 2. Being a “red” community refers to the state’s COVID-19 infection, color-coded maps. Communities in the red have the highest rate of infection, the second highest is yellow, then red, and finally gray communities pose the lowest of all risk.
