Hartford County staple Amato's Toy and Hobby in New Britain, announced on Facebook Wednesday, Jan. 5, that they have decided to close the store after more than 60 years. The last day of business is on Monday, Feb. 28. "It was a tough decision to make," the owners said. "It’s been fun. I have run this business since 1974, fresh out of high school. Manchester Hardware in Easthampton announced on Labor Day, Sept. 7, that it would be holding a “retirement-store closing sale” Thursday, Sept. 10 through Wednesday, Sept. 16. “While I love this store and serving the community, I have reached a fork in the road,” said Carol Perman in a letter to her customers.
