A 59-year-old Western Mass woman died following a single-vehicle crash.

Franklin County resident Brenda Louise Perrea, of Northfield, was killed around 3:15 p.m., Thursday, May 13, after her vehicle crashed into a cement abutment under the Interstate 91 overpass on Bernardston Road in Greenfield, said Laurie Loisel, spokeswoman for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

Police were summoned to the scene by a passerby who called 911 at 3:21 p.m., said Loisel.

Perrea was transported by ambulance to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4:10 p.m.

Greenfield Police and Massachusetts State Police in cooperation with the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office are investigating the crash.

The official cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
