A man suspected of robbing an elderly woman of her purse, while she waited at a bus stop, has been arrested by Northampton Police.

On Thursday, July 23, at around 10 a.m., Northampton Police responded to a report of a male swiping a purse on State Street, police said.

Officers learned the 78-year-old woman had been waiting at the Pulaski Park bus stop when her purse was snatched from her shopping cart. One male suspected distracted her, while another ran off with her handbag, police said.

Northampton Police were able to match the woman’s description to a 29-year-old male that was soon spotted and arrested on Main Street.

Police have not released the arrested man’s name. He will be charged with larceny from a person over age 65, police said.
