Man Wanted In Baby's Killing Surrenders To Holyoke Police After Month On Run: DA A 28-year-old Hamden County man who has been on the run since he was accused of a shooting that caused the death of a newborn baby on Oct. 4 has surrendered to police in Holyoke.  Kermith Alvarez will be arraigned on a murder charge on Monday, the Hampden County District Attorney said. He was one of the state's 10 most wanted before he gave himself up.  Alvarez is one of three men accused of a shooting in the 100 block of Sargeant Street in Holyoke on Oct. 4, police said. Newborn Abandoned: Springfield Police Looking For Mom Police in Hamden County are asking the public to help them find the mother of a newborn baby who was found abandoned in the middle of the night at a Springfield home Friday, March 17.  The baby was found just after 12:30 p.m. wrapped in blankets and sitting in a car seat at a house on Entrybrook Drive, Springfield police said on Monday. House Fire: Minor Injuries In Early Morning Holyoke Blaze Firefighters in Hamden County were quick to the scene of an early morning house fire after a 911.  Holyoke firefighters arrived at the 160 Pine Street home just before 5 a.m. in the driving snow when a neighbor noticed the house next door was on fire, authorities said. Despite crews best efforts the high winds pushed the flames onto a nearby home.  Crews were able to get the blaze under control after a short period and rescued a resident of the first home who had minor smoke inhalation injuries, authorities said. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Police Say She Swindled Nearly $3K From West Springfield Bank; Do You Know Her? Police in Hamden County are asking for the public's help to find a woman they say stole $2,800 from a West Springfield Bank last month.  The woman used a fake ID to withdraw cash from the bank on Feb. 17 fraudulently. Falling Tree Kills Baby Riding In Car In Southwick: DA's Office A infant was killed Friday afternoon, Feb. 3, when a falling tree crashed into the car they were riding in, authorities said. The incident happened just before noon along Route 57 (Feeding Hills Road) in Southwick, MA, Hamden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni said.  The driver, a 23-year-old woman from Winstead, CT, was rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries. Gulluni said the child was the woman's niece. A portion of Route 57 near Foster Road was shut down Friday afternoon as police cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Child Found Unresponsive In Water At Beach In Western Mass, Police Say An 8-year-old girl found unresponsive at a Massachusetts beach was saved by CPR performed by bystanders. The incident took place in Berkshire County in Pittsfield around 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 24. Police, firefighters, and EMS responded to the Burbank Park public beach area at Onota Lake for an unresponsive child found in the water, said Lt. John Soules, of the Pittsfield Police Department.  Citizens on scene began administering CPR and responding emergency workers took over rescue measures upon their arrival, Soules said.
