'Swatting' Hoax Threats Send Multiple Massachusetts School Into Lockdowns
Multiple Massachusetts schools have been forced into lockdowns because of fake gun and bomb threats, otherwise known as "swatting" incidents, over the past four days. "Swatting" is defined as "the action or practice of making a prank call to emergency services in an attempt to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers to a particular address," according to Oxford Language. Wanted Man From Massachusetts Apprehended In NY
An out-of-state man wanted for assaulting a woman was nabbed by police in the Hudson Valley. The man was apprehended in Ulster County while officers were conducting a warrant investigation on Tuesday, Aug. 23. While conducting the investigation, officers located AJ Brown, age unknown, of Gloucester, Massachusetts, living in the hamlet of Glasco, in the town of Saugerties, Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra said. A fox found in Gloucester tested positive earlier this month for rabies, and state and local officials are asking people to stay vigilant outdoors. The Massachusetts Public Health Department said the fox was found near 86 Concord St. on Aug. 10. Man Robs Store With Machete Day Before Second Robbery In North Shore Town
Gloucester Police are investigating a pair of consecutive robberies. The first robbery happened at the Yellow Sub, located at 73 Pleasant Street, around 4:31 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, police said. Authorities have identified the 18-year-old who drowned in a prohibited swimming area in Gloucester as Fabieri Fabert of Everett, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said. Fabert was pulled from the water after crews responded to the reported drowning at Vernon's Pit around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, Massachusetts State Police said. An 18-year-old has died after drowning in a prohibited swimming area in Gloucester, authorities said. Multiple rescue crews responded to the reported drowning at Vernon's Pit around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, Massachusetts State Police said. Dog Treats Recall Issued Due To Salmonella Threat
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is cautioning pet owners to be aware of a dog treat recall that has been linked to several cases of Salmonella in humans. Three cases of salmonellosis - infection with the Salmonella bacteria - have been tied to Essex County-based Dog Gone Dog Treats, which are made in Georgetown, which impacted a child and two adults in their 70s.
