On Thursday, Jan. 28, West Springfield Police arrested Nathan “Nate” J. Marrin, formerly of West Springfield, for an alleged assault and robbery the prior day.

A warrant was issued for Marrin’s arrest after police received a report that a man - allegedly Marrin - had assaulted someone at a Westfield Street (Route 20) residence in the area of Sorrento’s, Classic Burger, and Dunkin,’ police said.

In that incident, Marrin allegedly lured a neighboring apartment resident into an apartment, which was his temporary residency. Once inside, Marrin allegedly stole the victim’s winter coat, footwear, and other personal items, police said.

“The attack occurred after the victim had offered to give Mr. Marrin an older winter coat,” police said.

Apparently, the victim had seen Marrin standing outside in the cold on several occassions with no coat.

At the time of the arrest, Marrin was allegedly wearing the stolen coat and footwear, police said.

The victim sustained several minor injuries after being repeatedly punched and stomped, police said.

Marrin was arrested at the Express Inn on Riverdale Road (Route 5) at around 5 p.m. on Thursday and charged with:

  • Armed robbery
  • Assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (a shod foot)
  • Assault by means of a dangerous weapon (knife)
  • And larceny under $1,200, police said.

Marrin is being held on $10,040 bail, said police, who added that Marrin is a person of interest in several other incidents that occurred in the same area of Westfield Street.
