“Proud Grandma,” a veteran Maryland Lottery player, has big plans after cashing in on a “Six Figure” scratch-off game that earned her a six-digit prize.

The woman, who is only known by her moniker, said that she’s familiar to winning Maryland Lottery games, though she can only recall winning $500 twice, and $1,200 on a “Pick 3” game.

“Most of the time I win something,” she said, though this prize was a little bigger than those, and it came as she broke her normal routine, according to Lottery officials.

After dropping off one of her grandsons at school, “Proud Grandma” stopped at Royal Farms on Wilkens Avenue in Baltimore, at which point the “Six Figure” scratcher caught her eye, and she said “let me get one of these,” they said.

Typically, “Proud Grandma” says she takes the tickets home and simply scratches the latex off the prize check code to scan with her phone, identifying the prize.

This time, she got a different message instructing her to take the ticket to a retailer.

“I didn’t scratch them right away,” she said. “I figured I should scratch it off to see what was going on.”

Sure enough, she scratched the rest of the ticket and found a $50,000 figure under one of the ticket’s matching numbers. Then she found the “Chance To Win More!” note on the ticket, which led to a multiplier, bringing her jackpot to $100,000, the top prize on the $10 ticket.

The doting matriarch says that she has big plans for her winnings.

She plans to “put a chunk to pay down (her house),” is going to take a trip to the Caribbean - specifically Turks and Caicos - and whatever’s left will be used to benefit her seven grandchildren, according to “Proud Grandma.”

“Proud Grandma’s” top-tier prize was the sixth to be claimed of eight available on the “Six Figures” ticket, officials noted. The game also started with nine prizes at the $50,000 level, of which four remain unclaimed, and 30 at the $10,000 level, of which 13 remain.

Royal Farms in Baltimore will also receive a $1,000 bonus from Maryland Lottery, representing 1 percent of “Proud Grandma’s” prize.
