Murder Charges Cleared For Baltimore Gunman Accused Of Killing Anti-Violence Advocate A Baltimore man has been acquitted of first-degree murder in the 2021 killing of an anti-violence advocate, CBS 13 reports.  Garrick Powell, 29, was accused of killing Safe Streets co-founder Dante Barksdale after he was found shot in the head in January 2021 near the Douglass Homes complex.  Powell's defense team argued that there was not enough evidence to convict Powell of murder, and that the murder weapon could have belonged to someone else other than Powell.  The full report from CBS 13 can be viewed here.

Memorial Honors Baltimore Safe Streets Worker Killed In Quadruple Shooting The Baltimore community is mourning the loss of DaShawn McGrier, a Safe Streets worker killed last week in a quadruple shooting. McGrier was about a month into the job as violence interruption at McElderry Park when he and two others were shot dead last Wednesday, according to the Living Classroom Foundation. The other victims were identified as Tyrone Allen, 28, and Hassan Smith, 24. A fourth person was injured McGrier was passionate about his community and working hard to keep the area safe, LCF said.
