Nursing Home Patient's Death Ruled Homicide: Baltimore PD

The death of a 75-year-old longterm care center patient who died after being knocked down by an employee last May has been ruled a homicide, authorities in Baltimore said.

Ellsworth Johnson-Bey was knocked down by a contract worker at a home on the 5000 block of Frankford Road the afternoon of May 18, 2022, city police said.

Johnson-Bey had suffered a broken hip during the assault and was transported to an area hospital, where he was admitted.

On Sept. 5, at approximately 05:37 a.m., a hospital staff member told police that Johnson-Bey had died. His body was taken to the Medical Examiners' Office for an autopsy. 

His death was ruled a homicide by blunt for trauma at 6 a.m. on Jan. 12, 2023, police said.

Johnson-Bey was the president, CEO and founder of the Fraternal Order of X-Offenders (FOXO), which researches "the prevalence of various socials ills" in Baltimore, according to a YouTube video by Rodney Foxworth.

"A man of wisdom, intelligence, integrity, commitment and humor," a loved one commented on his obituary. "It was a pleasure and a blessing to work alongside him... on the many community issues that plagued Baltimore City."
