Samuel Wise was arrested in connection with the January shooting death of Chesley Patterson on Tuesday, April 12, Baltimore Police said. After completing his interview, Wise tried to escape from headquarters but was quickly apprehended and sent to Central Booking for processing, police said.

The shooting happened in the 1700 block of Eastern Avenue around 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 24, police said. Upon arrival, officers found Patterson suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he later died, police said.

Patterson was well-known in the Baltimore Community as the manager of La Scala Ristorante Italiano. He was allegedly shot and killed by Wise while he was leaving the restaurant for the night. Patterson's death sent shockwaves through the community.

"I will NEVER forget you my friend," one Facebook user wrote. "I will always cherish our great memories and I pray that your untimely death will not go unnoticed in this crazy city of ours."

With Wise's arrest, people took to social media to remember Patterson's legacy once again.

"Chesley Patterson was one of the kindest people in the world. He was murdered in cold blood while driving home from work," Baltimore City Councilmember Zeke Cohen said on Facebook. "This senseless disregard for human life cannot be accepted or tolerated. We are grateful to the good detective work that led to an arrest in this case."

Wise is now waiting to see a court commissioner.
