A former state senator already facing 28 counts of fraud and tax evasion is now accused of lying about a fake job offer at his sister's company, federal authorities said.
Dean Tran, 48, of Fitchburg, was indicted on one count of obstruction of justice and one count of making a false statement. Tran's sister, Tuyet T. Martin, 54, of Pelham, New Hampshire, was indicted on two counts of obstruction of justice and one count of perjury, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said.

Two men have been charged with the fatal shooting of a teenager in 1993 in Worcester County, authorities announced on Monday, March 25.
Robert D’Lucca, 49, and Lawrence Calafell, 51, of Gardner, were indicted on one count of murder in the death of 15-year-old Deondray Atwood, the Worcester County District Attorney's Office said.
They were also indicted on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without an FID card.

A 32-year-old Worcester County woman was hospitalized on Wednesday, Aug. 23, after she was involved in a truck versus motorcycle crash, police said.
Jessica Westover, of Fitchburg, was riding her 2021 Kawasaki ZR900 motorcycle east along Route 31 in Mason, New Hampshire, when she crashed with a Ford F-250 driven by a 55-year-old Mason, NH, man, New Hampshire State Police said.
Officers did not say who was at fault.
Westover was taken to Eliot Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Ivan Torres, 32, of Fitchburg, and Abel Rodriguez Rivera, 35, of Ponce, Puerto Rico, pleaded guilty to one count each of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 280 grams or more of cocaine base (commonly known as crack cocaine), and 500 grams or more of cocaine, the US Attorney for Massachusetts said.
