Shooter Gets Life In Prison For Murder Of Mother Of 2 Stephanie Olivieri In Western Mass
A 30-year-old man who was found guilty of the August 2019 killing of Stephanie Olivieri, a mother, in her car in Berkshire County was sentenced to life in prison, authorities announced on Tuesday, June 18. Police found several gifts and decorations in Oliveri's vehicle as she was preparing to celebrate one of her two children's birthday. Tyler Sumner, of North Adams, was found guilty on May 31 of first-degree murder and possession of ammunition without FID card, the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office said. Police Asking For Tips After Man Shot In Central Mass
Police in Worcester say a 24-year-old man was shot during a meeting with his attacker on Thursday, June 13. The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. in the area of Vernon Street. Worcester police were called to the shooting site and provided first aid until paramedics arrived to take him to an area hospital. Investigators do not believe the shooting was random, and there is no ongoing threat to the community. Officers ask anyone with information about the violent attack to contact investigators at 508-799-8651.

A man was rushed to the hospital on Saturday morning, June 1, after a canister of acetylene exploded in a car trunk at a home in Worcester County, authorities said. The explosion was reported at 216 Brattle Street in Holden Saturday morning after the tank blew. The canister had been left in the car overnight with a small leak, the State Fire Marshal's Office said. It's unclear what caused the spark to ignite the acetylene. Firefighters Battle Train Fire In Western Mass Overnight
Firefighters in Palmer were called to a train engine fire earlier Sunday morning, May 19, which posed a unique problem. Crews rushed to the scene just before 4 a.m. to a train stopped by Park Street that had caught fire.
