Springfield police responded to a Shotspotter activation near the intersection of Acorn and Sycamore streets just before 3:30 p.m. Officers did not find a victim, but they noted three cars and two homes had bullet holes in them.
Soon after, an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound was dropped off at Mercy Medical Center, where he was later taken to Baystate Medical Center for trauma treatment, authorities said. Doctors list him in critical condition.
Witnesses and security video helped police identify the 15-year-old as the shooter. He was also one of the people who drove the victim to the hospital, Springfield police said.
Police arrested the teenager at his Wilmont Street home late Monday night.
The boy's name will not be released because of his age.
