American flags in Massachusetts and around the country are flying at half-staff today, Tuesday, Feb. 23, in recognition of the 500,000 Americans who have died from COVID-19. The US reached this tragic number of deaths on Monday, Feb. 22. More Americans have died of COVID-19 than in all of World War I, World War II and the Vietnam War combined, according to the White House. The lowering of the American flag is in line with a presidential proclamation that flags should be flown at half-staff at all state and federal buildings.
