Man Pulled From Central Mass Swamp After Getting Stuck For More Than Hour Police and firefighters in Worcester County saved a man after he fell into a swamp and was stuck for more than an hour, authorities said.  First responders began receiving 911 calls just after 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 28, from people who said they could hear a man screaming for help on Pitcherville Road in Hubbardston.  They found the man stuck in chest-deep murky water in a swamp about 30 yards from the road, Hubbardston firefighters said. Family Dog Killed In Central Mass Fire; Blaze Under Investigation A fire in Worcester County earlier this week nearly destroyed a home and killed a family dog, authorities said.  Fire crews responded to the blaze just before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, at 1075 Dana Road in Barre after a neighbor saw smoke pouring from the home's second floor and called 911, the Barre Fire Department said.  Firefighters burst through the front door and were met by "heavy fire," the report said. They were able to contain the blaze within 20 minutes.  The home was heavily damaged in the fire, but no one was injured. A family dog died in the conflagration…

'Shcool' Zone: Central Mass Town Promises To Fix Misspelled Street Sign A contractor may have needed to spend more time in "shcool" after they inadvertently misspelled school on a giant road sign in Worcester County.  Holden officials said the mistake happened two weeks ago on Holden Road near Mountainview School. They hope to fix it when the weather improves. 'Huffing' Woman Caused Car Explosion In Central Mass: Police Fire investigators in Worcester County believe a car explosion over the weekend was caused by a woman huffing cans of compressed air inside the vehicle to get high.  The explosion happened on Saturday, July 22, near Walmart in Sturbridge at 110 Charlton Road. Fire crews were called when an explosion blew the windows out of a Toyota Corolla and dislodged the doors. Central Mass Police Say He's Behind Break-in Police in Worcester County are asking for the public's help to identify a man they say is behind a business break-in.  Auburn detectives say the man was filmed on security video near the scene of a break-in last week at a business near the Oxford town line. He appears to be wearing a blue cast on his left leg.  The man drove away in a  brown/tan/gold sedan.  Auburn police ask anyone who has any information on the man's identity to contact detectives at 508-833-7777.
