City Finds 'Hot Loads' Of Radiation-Based Material In Trash A city DPW has been finding “hot loads” of radiation-based materials in the trash during pickups. On Tuesday, Nov. 10, the Department of Public Works in Springfield said their radiation sensors at the disposal facility were “tripped” on Thursday, Oct. 29, and Thursday, Nov. 5. The DPW did not toss the “radiation-based contaminated material” in the trash and the truck that picked up the dangerous junk had to be cleaned at a cost to the city of more than $5,000.
