19 Incidents Shoot Up In 3 Pioneer Valley Communities - Town-By-Town Trends and Rates
The COVID-19 incident rate shot up dramatically in Amherst where UMass is attempting to tamp down on the virus’s spread. The daily average COVID-19 rate in Amherst per 100,000 people was 26.6 last week, Feb. 4. As of Thursday, Feb. 11, Amherst’s COVID-19 rate is 78.8. Forecast: Multiple Snow Events Expected This Week
On the heels of a snowy weekend, the National Weather Service is predicting more snow later this week. Anywhere between 2 inches and 5 inches of snowfall is anticipated for parts of Central and Western Massachusetts on Tuesday, Feb. 9, and possibly into Wednesday, Feb. 10, according to the National Weather Service. Expect the snow to start falling early on Tuesday, between 6 and 7 a.m. in the Berkshires and Pioneer Valley and more towards 9 a.m. for Worcester and Fitchburg. A new map of where you can get vaccinated against COVID-19 in Massachusetts shows 20 locations in Central and Western Massachusetts. If you’re eligible to get a vaccine, Mass.gov has created an interactive map of vaccination sites you can use to learn more about the facilities and how to book appointments. 19: Pioneer Valley Reports 300-400 New Cases Per Day
Reports of between 300-400 new COVID-19 incidents per day have been recorded in the Pioneer Valley since the weekend - and Tuesday’s totals kept the trend going. There were 379 new COVID-19 infections reported in the Pioneer Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 22, according to the most recent state data. On that same date, there were 5 COVID-19-related deaths in the three counties. Among the Pioneer Valley counties, Hampden is the most populated and has experienced the most incidents and deaths. Over the weekend, Hampden County had its 1,000th COVID-19-related death since the pandemic began. Meanwhile, nearly 660 new COVID-19 cases were reported over the weekend - Dec. 19-20 - in the Pioneer Valley. New cases were reported in Hampden County - 544; Hampshire County - 80; and Franklin County - 35, according to Massachusetts Daily COVID-19 Dashboard.
