ID Released For Bicyclist Struck, Killed By Car At Intersection In Region Police have released the ID of a bicyclist who was struck and killed crossing a busy intersection in Western Massachusetts. Officers from the Northampton Police Department in Hampshire County said that local resident Charles Braun was riding his bike near the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Elm Street at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6 when he was struck by a car. Braun was transported to Corey Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, where he was later pronounced dead. Person, Dog Rescued From River In Western Mass A person and their dog were rescued from a river in Western Massachusetts after being swept away in the current. It happened at 9:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 23 in Hampshire County. Firefighters in Northampton were dispatched to the Mill River behind Maines Field for an individual and dog that were swept away in the current.  Once on the scene, firefighters found the individual and dog holding onto a tree that was across the river, unable to fight the current to the shore, said the Northampton Fire Department.  Firefighters donned water rescue suits and entered the water. Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle In Western Mass A pedestrian by a vehicle in Western Massachusetts suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The incident took place in Hampshire County around 12:30 p.m Saturday, Aug. 14 in the area of Main and Masonic streets in Northampton, said Detective Lt. Craig Kirouac. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is expected to be okay, police said.  An investigation is underway to determine if the person was in a crosswalk.

Suspect Arrested In Death Of Western Mass Pedestrian, DA's Office Says Police have arrested a Western Mass man in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian. The Franklin County crash, which killed a 45-year-old Shelburne Falls resident, took place around 6:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 8, along Route 2 in Shelburne, said Laurie Loisel, with the Northwestern District Attorney's Office. According to Loisel, the pedestrian, who was walking along Route 2 with a companion was pronounced dead at the scene. Man Accused Of Threatening To Shoot Police Officers In Western Mass A 32-year-old Western Mass man has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot two police officers. On Saturday, May 22, a man in Hampshire County threatened to get a gun and shoot two Northampton police officers working a detail, said the Northampton Police. On Monday, May 25, police received an arrest warrant for the man, a resident of Northampton, who was located but when police attempted to arrest him he was able to get into his vehicle took off at a high rate of speed. The man was later stopped on I-91 by the Massachusetts State Police and placed under arrest.
