XL Center Gets New Name As CT's Largest Arena Undergoes $145M Renovation The second home of the UConn Huskies' champion basketball teams has a new name to match its refreshed look. The XL Center has officially been renamed as PeoplesBank Arena. The rebranding was announced by Gov. Ned Lamont, Oak View Group, and the Capital Region Development Authority at a news conference on Monday, June 2. The naming rights had been held since 2007 by Axa XL, a global insurance company headquartered in Stamford. Before that, the 16,000-seat arena was called the Hartford Civic Center since it opened in 1975 and some people still refer to the building by that name. PeoplesBank…

Feds Charge Famed Bank Robber With Another Boston Heist Federal authorities announced on Monday, Nov. 21, they charged a Fall River man who claims to have robbed more than 100 banks with a heist in Boston on Sept. 30. Man Who Says Ben Affleck Played Him In Movie Busted Robbing Boston Bank: DA A 59-year-old Rhode Island man who claims to have robbed more than 100 banks and says he was the inspiration for a Ben Affleck movie character was busted this week while trying to add to his heist tally. William Sequeira of Providence was arrested just after 3:30 on Wednesday, Oct. 5, after he tried to rob the Citizens Bank at 426 Boylston Street, Boston police said. Officers tackled him to the ground after he demanded cash from the teller, authorities continued.
