Springfield Police Fires Gun To Avoid Being Hit By Car During Drag Race Crackdown A Springfield Police officer allegedly shot through a windshield at a suspect because the man in the vehicle was trying to hit the officer, Sunday. Aug. 16. Meanwhile, a second officer involved in the incident was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was treated for a head injury and released, police said. The driver is not believed to have been struck by the officer’s bullets as he fled the scene, police said.
