An infant died shortly after being delivered following a Hampden County shooting just before 1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4 in in Holyoke at the intersection of Maple and Sargeant Streets. A pregnant woman was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The infant, who was delivered, and needed life-saving medical services, tragically died, according to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, All involved suspects are believed to have been identified and transported to nearby hospitals and are in custody, the DA's Offoce said. …

Man Accused Of Western Mass Murder Captured In Puerto Rico: DA A 22-year-old man accused of a fatal shooting in Hampden County before escaping to Puerto Rico will be brought back to face justice three months later, authorities said.  Aleq Rodrigues, of Holyoke, is charged with murder in the killing of 30-year-old Edgar Soto-Irizarry on June 22, the Hampden County District Attorney said.   Soto-Irizarry was found in an apartment building in the 300 block of Appleton Street just before 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call after someone heard a gunshot, police said. Kayaker Finds Body On Riverbank Near Western Mass Bridge: Firefighters Holyoke firefighters and police were called to Muller Bridge Sunday morning after a kayaker body on the bank of a river.  Crews responded just before noon to Long Pond Road after receiving reports of the corpse washed up on the bank, the Holyoke Fire Department said. Police closed a section of the road for several hours as they investigated and cleared the scene.  Police are investigating the cause of death. Detectives have not released the identification of the body or any information on how they could have ended up in the water.
