'True Hero': Firefighter Saves Woman After Car Falls Into Western Mass Floodwaters
Rescue workers in Franklin County are calling one of their brethren a hero after he risked his life last week to save a woman after her car was swept away by flood waters. Deerfield Assistant Fire Chief Ben Clark was surveying storm damage on Friday, July 21, just after 3 p.m., when the car in front of him was swallowed as the pavement on Lower Road gave way. CT Officers Rescue Residents From Burning Apartment House
Several Connecticut police officers, including two who were injured, are being lauded for rescuings residents from an apartment house on fire. The incident took place in Hartford County just after midnight on Monday, May 8 at 50 Hillside St. in East Hartford. According to Officer Marc Caruso of the East Hartford Police, officers were dispatched to a check welfare complaint at 50 Hillside St. While there, officers spotted heavy smoke coming from the first floor, which was completely unrelated to the initial check welfare complaint. Police Rescue Elderly Woman From 'Fully-Engulfed' Structure Fire
Officers could hear the screaming coming from inside of the burning building. On Saturday, Feb. 27, emergency responders were called to a multi-unit dwelling on Chilmark Street that had become fully engulfed in flames, police said. At around 1:20 a.m., when Worcester Police first got on the scene, they observed people in the rear common hallway screaming for help as smoke filled the corridor.
