Springfield Police Seize 1 Illegal Firearm About Every Other Day; 2nd Highest Rate In MA With the seizure of the 117th illegal firearm by Springfield Police this year, officers are pulling guns off the streets at a rate of about 1 every other day. On average, Springfield is second only to Boston in the number of firearms recovered per year in Massachusetts, according to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
