A new highly contagious COVID-19 variant that evolved from the Omicron strain has now been labeled "a variant of interest" by the World Health Organization. Gold Medal Flour Products Recalled Due To Salmonella Contamination
General Mills is recalling Gold Medal flour products after Salmonella has turned up in testing. The company announced on Friday, April 28 a voluntary national recall of 2-, 5- and 10-pound bags of its Gold Medal Unbleached and Bleached All Purpose Flour with a “better if used by” date of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024. The recall is being issued for the potential presence of Salmonella Infantis, which was discovered during sampling of the 5-pound bag product, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said. A new COVID-19 variant fueling a rise in cases is causing a new symptom that has not been associated with the virus during the three-plus years of the pandemic. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is warning about eye drops tainted with bacteria that are now being linked to three deaths and dozens of infections. In addition, eight people have reported vision loss and there have been four reports of eyes being removed after the drops were used. New Listeria Outbreak With Unknown Food Source Under Investigation In NY
A new multi-state outbreak of infections from Listeria is under investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "A specific food item has not yet been identified as the source of this outbreak," the CDC said in a statement released on Wednesday, Feb. 15. "However, CDC is concerned that several recent illnesses have been reported. Listeria illness is rare, but it can result in serious illness or death." A Brooklyn-based company is recalling Enoki mushrooms that were imported from Korea which may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The FDA announced that H&C Food Inc. is recalling 7.05-ounce Enoki mushrooms that were important from Green Co. and distributed to supermarkets in New York, Maryland, and Virginia. The mushrooms subject to recall were distributed between Saturday, Feb. 15 and Thursday, March 5.
