Grill Fire Guts Home In Western Mass, Injures 2, Leave 6 Homeless
Fire investigators say a two-alarm Hampden County blaze on Thursday, Aug. 3, started on a grill on a home's back porch.
The fire began just before 4 p.m. on Wilbraham Street in Palmer as a family was cooking dinner on their outside grill, the Palmer Fire Department said. The blaze quickly got out of control and spread to the home before crews could get there and battle the flames back.

The three teenagers killed in a single-vehicle crash in Western Massachusetts have been identified by Massachusetts State Police and a GoFundMe organized in their honor.
The crash happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday, June 26, in the town of Brimfield in Hampden County, Massachusetts State Police said.

Good news! The COVID-19 rate in most Hampden County cities and towns has gone down, according to the most recent information from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Hampden County now has a “green” community as well - a term for communities with a low risk for the spread of the virus - it’s Holland.
Other Hampden County communities where the risk is low include Montgomery, Wales, Blanford, Granville, Tolland, and Russell.

On Thursday, Dec. 17, Massachusetts Public Health Department released weekly town-by-town datasets that include how many COVID-19 incidents there are per 100,000 residents - the incident rate.

Nine more Central and Western Massachusetts communities have been added to the state’s COVID-19 “red” list as infection rates climb across the state and nation.
This week, Nov. 27, there are 31 Central and Western Massachusetts communities in the red - meaning that they are at the highest risk to spread the virus.
Last week, Nov. 19, there were 21.
The week before that, Nov. 12, there were 9.

8 Fire Departments Needed To Knock Down Raging House Fire
It took eight fire departments to put out a raging house fire over the weekend.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, around 11:30 p.m., Spencer firefighters responded to a report of a fire on Sheppard Road. The fire had started in the attic, firefighters said.
The flames quickly spread and the town called in back up from Southbridge, Brimfield, Holland, Charlton, Brookfield, East Brookfield, and Auburn.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. People sustained minor injuries in the blaze, firefighters said.

Hampden County has a lot to celebrate in this week’s COVID-19 positive test results - a lot of cities were able to bring their rates down, according to the most recent information from the Baker Administration.
This week, the update contains a new community, Longmeadow, that had been previously missing from the report.
Positive test rates have gone down in Agawam, Brimfield, Chicopee, Springfield, West Springfield, and Westfield.

National Grid: Power To Return To All Western Mass Customers By Saturday, Aug. 8
About half of National Grid’s customers in the eastern portion of Western Massachusetts may be without electricity until the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 8.
As of Thursday, Aug. 6, 14,223 Hampden County National Grid customers were without power in the wake of the Tuesday Tropical Storm Isaias.
