Attorneys for Sean Higgins, the man accused of drunk driving in the crash that killed the Gaudreau brothers, argued in court this week that new test results are in and his blood alcohol level was below the legal driving limit, according to multiple news reports. While police say that Higgins' BAC was 0.087, the New Jersey man's lawyers argued on Tuesday, Feb. 24, that a defense expert's report shows only plasma was tested, and his true level was 0.075 percent, which is under the legal driving limit of 0.08 percent, according to 6ABC Action News and NBC10. Man Busted Weeks After Fatal Holyoke Hit-And-Run That Killed 22-Year-Old: Police
Police arrested a man in Springfield this week in connection with the hit-and-run death of 22-year-old Jorge Calderon, authorities announced. Byron Salgado-Melendez was arrested in the Jan. 5 crash near the intersection of Cabot and Canal streets just before 8 p.m. Calderon was riding his bike when a car crashed into him and sped away. Paramedics took him to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save his life. Calderon died a week later from his injuries. ID Released For Bicyclist Struck, Killed By Car At Intersection In Region
Police have released the ID of a bicyclist who was struck and killed crossing a busy intersection in Western Massachusetts. Officers from the Northampton Police Department in Hampshire County said that local resident Charles Braun was riding his bike near the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Elm Street at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6 when he was struck by a car. Braun was transported to Corey Dickinson Hospital in Northampton, where he was later pronounced dead.
