Fire crews battled a Brimfield housefire that left extensive damage to the exterior of the building as well as inside the residence, Brimfield firefighters said.

The two-story home on Dunhamtown Road is believed to have caught fire due to a malfunctioning generator and “not refueling,” firefighters said.

On Thursday, Aug. 6, the town’s fire department issued a warning:

“Please be careful running generators at your homes. Make sure they are away from your house and especially clear of open windows. Also, make sure you have working carbon monoxide detectors in your home," firefighters said.
