Boy, 5, Who Fell Into Connecticut River Has Died; ID'd As Higganum Resident The 5-year-old boy who fell into the Connecticut River in Middlesex County last week while kayaking has died, authorities said. Jaxon Podbielski, of Higganum, was kayaking with an adult and fell into the water around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 26, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said. It's unclear how long he remained in the water before rescuers pulled him out. WTNH reported the child suffered pediatric cardiac arrest when he was pulled from the water. The players from Wallingford in New Haven County and Wethersfield in Hartford County won the money playing the "$2,000,000 Jackpot," a $20 scratch game. Firefighters Battle Blaze At Norwalk Garage Repair Shop Firefighters in Fairfield County were able to quickly douse the flames at a garage repair shop on Friday afternoon, Nov. 1. Norwalk firefighters were called to 13 North Taylor Street just before 1:30 p.m. A garage converted into a repair shop near a row of storage units had caught on fire. Crews were able to put out the blaze before it spread or anyone was injured, the fire department said. Authorities are investigating what sparked the blaze.

Man Slammed Kitten Against Table, Threw It Off Deck In Shelton Because It Annoyed Him: Police A Connecticut man horrifically beat a family member's kitten and left it to die in the cold in Fairfield County, then lied to cover it up, authorities said. Krzystof Bakota, age 47, of Shelton, is charged with first-degree animal abuse and was being held on a $25,000 bond, police said.
