Season’s Coldest Air Could Bring Snow This Week: Here’s Timing A coming weather shift could bring more than a colder breeze, with snowflakes potentially joining the forecast as the week winds down. The National Weather Service expects a stronger storm system to approach late this week, increasing the chance of widespread rain and possible snow mixing in some farther-north and inland locations. Forecasters caution that the storm’s timing, track, and exact impacts remain uncertain.  The change will unfold in stages. Showers could cross upstate New York and northwestern New England from Sunday night, Nov. 8, into Monday, Nov. 9, with mountain snow s…

Snow Map: These States Most Likely To See A White Christmas, Old Farmer's Almanac Says A white Christmas could be on the holiday wish list for parts of the Northeast, but the Old Farmer’s Almanac draws a sharp line between snowy scenery and bare ground. The publication’s Christmas outlook favors snow cover in its Northeast and Intermountain regions, as well as Alaska, on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25. Its Northeast region includes much of inland New York and northern New England, extending into parts of Massachusetts. The Atlantic Corridor gets a different prediction: no white Christmas. That distinction matters for readers comparing nearby communities. The map’s forecast b…

East Coast On Alert As Offshore Storm Could Take Tropical Turn An offshore storm could take a tropical turn, giving East Coast communities another reason to watch the forecast closely. The National Hurricane Center's outlook gives the system a 40 percent chance of developing within seven days, but a near-zero chance within 48 hours. The non-tropical low sits a few hundred miles off the southeastern US coast. It could acquire subtropical characteristics later this week if it remains over the Gulf Stream and separates from an associated front, the NHC said. Snow Outlook: National Weather Service Releases Winter Forecast Will this winter bring buried driveways or another season of waiting for snow? A new federal outlook offers clues about what the Northeast could face. NOAA’s National Weather Service released its winter outlook Thursday, Oct. 15, favoring above-average temperatures across the Northeast and wetter-than-average conditions along the East Coast from December through February 2027. That combination leaves an important question unresolved: How much of that precipitation will fall as snow? The NOAA outlook does not predict seasonal snowfall totals. Its maps show the odds of warmer, colder, wetter…
