One of America’s most recognizable and beloved entertainers, whose songs, humor, and generosity crossed generations, has died.
Country music legend Dolly Parton died Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Nashville, Tennessee, at age 80, her family announced in a video posted to Parton’s Instagram account. She died peacefully surrounded by loved ones, according to the family.
Parton’s death came after a period of health problems that had forced her to step back from several public appearances.

Ashley Taunton, 42, of Ledyard, was traveling south on I-95 through Hopkinton, Rhode Island, with her youngest daughter last month when she spotted a wreck. Rain was pouring down, but Taunton, a mother of three who formerly worked as a certified nursing assistant, would not leave someone stranded.

Pierre Michel Formosa, 68, died on Monday, Aug. 17, after he and a traveling companion got stuck in mud near Queen of Sheba Mine Road, the National Park Service said in a news release on Friday, Aug. 21.
