Kyle Carpenter, 35, faced murder and second-degree assault charges in the Nov. 13, 2019, stabbing at a Thompson home. A court found Carpenter not guilty because of mental disease during his trial in May. A three-judge panel ruled on Aug. 25 that Carpenter must remain under state supervision for 45 years.
