Police Save Two Kayakers Being Swept Away By Current Off Fairfield County Coast
Two kayakers whose vessels overturned and were being swept away by the current were rescued by a Fairfield County police marine unit. The incident took place around 12:40 p.m., Monday, Jan. 18, in the Town of Fairfield. The Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a kayaker on the Long Island Sound requesting assistance after he and his friend’s kayaks overturned and were swept away by the current. Marina Owner In Fairfield County Sentenced For Scuttling Abandoned Vessels
The owner of a Fairfield County marina will avoid time behind bars but was hit with a heavy fine as he was sentenced for abandoning boats in the Long Island Sound. John Magness, formerly of Southbury in New Haven County, was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay a $45,000 fine for scuttling several sailboats and motorboats between Black Rock Harbor and the Pennfield Reef Lighthouse in the Long Island Sound. Man Rescued After Being Stranded In Long Island Sound For Hours
Officers rescued a jet ski operator who had been stranded in the Long Island Sound for about three hours. At about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, a friend of the 60-year-old man notified the United States Coast Guard that the man was more than three hours overdue to return to Rocky Point, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. SCPD said a police helicopter responded just before 7 p.m. and located the jet ski floating in the water with no occupant.
